CHINA STORY
‘A broad mind and a big heart’ – that’s the spirit embodied in the music of Xiaogang Ye, award-winning film composer and arguably China’s greatest living composer in the Western classical tradition.
Colourful, melodious and deeply emotional, his music draws on the ancient poetry of China to tell universal stories. Gilbert Varga is joined by four handpicked soloists, including Lu Wei, the acclaimed Concertmaster of Deutsches Symphony Orchester Berlin, and Shenyang, winner of the 2007 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition, as they share Ye’s beauty, alongside the music of Benjamin Britten – another great composer who took his inspiration from wind, water and the human heart.
