A “Come and Play” opportunity, with a twist….

Louise has brought a special participatory event to our attention. Here is her description.

A “Come and Play” with a difference….

Fancy playing alongside the staggeringly brilliant musicians of Red Note Ensemble? Come and join them for an online side-by-side performance of John Cage’s iconic 4’33”. All instruments and standards are welcome, and it is free to take part.

For those who don’t know it, this avant-garde piece, written in 1952, instructs performer(s) not to play for 4’33”. The idea is not that the piece is silence, but that the “music” consists of the ambient sound around the performer. So it’s different every time it’s played. It’s a classic of the repertoire!

Only 49 places are available; so sign up quickly if you fancy it.

The event takes place on Friday 3 July 2020 from 15:00 to 15:30, and the registration deadline is 12 pm on Friday 26 June. For more details and instructions on how to register, see the Red Note website.
