New work by Anna Appleby

Many members of the orchestra will remember performing the piece “Turbines” at the orchestra’s 10th anniversary concert in June 2018. This was written by composer Anna Appleby as part of the “Adopt a Composer” scheme run by Making Music in partnership with Sound and Music. Anna has now contacted us to let us know about a new piece she has written for a youth orchestra. Here is what Anna says about the piece:

I wanted to share with you a recording of my new piece which I composed for a youth orchestra this year, as I think it was hugely inspired by my work with you and Merchant Sinfonia on Turbines. That was such a beautiful project.

This new piece is inspired by the bridges over the River Tyne, and there’s a mini promo video about the piece including some lovely interviews with the young players here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cl16Kb6Gnqo

Here is a recording of the full piece if it interests you, I’m sharing it with lots of amateur and youth orchestras but thought you might be interested to listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZTQecC3eYI
