Virtual orchestra, December 7

The second and last of the winter online sessions will take place on Tuesday December 7, at 7:30 pm.

Invitations to the session, with login details, will be sent out by email. If you don’t receive an email and would like to take part, please contact us using the Enquiries form.

For this session, Louise has chosen two new pieces:

HELY- HUTCHINSON: Carol Symphony, 3rd movement
…but not all of the 3rd movement, just the famous twinkly “Box of Delights” bit.
Parts can be downloaded/printed via this link to my Dropbox here
*No need to print off the whole thing* – we’ll only be doing bar 27 Piu Mosso – bar 87 (immediately before the key change)

PROKOFIEV: Lieutenant Kije (Suite), 4. “Troika
Parts available on IMSLP here
*No need to print off the whole thing* – just need no. 4 “Troika”

In addition, we will play some or all of the pieces from the last session:

WARLOCK: Capriol Suite; the following movements:
1. Basse Danse
2. Pavane
5. Pieds-en-l’air
6. Mattachins

  • Those organised folk who may still have the Goodmusic arrangement parts in their folders can use those.
  • Anyone who doesn’t can use the IMSLP arrangement. (Warlock is out of copyright, so we’re okay on that front). It’s not the same, but is compatible. Plus the brass get more to do!
  • Anyone going down this route should go to the “Sheet Music” heading, then click on the “Arrangements and Transcriptions (56)” tab. Select the arrangement at the top of the list “For Orchestra (Thomas)” arranged by Jane Vivienne Thomas, uploaded by “Madjanev”.

TCHAIKOVSKY: Russian Dance (Trepak) from The Nutcracker Suite
BBC Ten Pieces version (n.b. not planning on doing Waltz of the Flowers)

HAYDN: Symphony no. 104, 3rd movement (“Menuetto”)
IMSLP parts
I suggest the first set of parts listed, the “Breitkopf-Kalmus older issue”, as this has transposed parts for clarinet and horn.

HANDEL: Hallelujah Chorus (from The Messiah)
IMSLP parts
Scroll down to the “Sheet Music” heading, then click on the “Arrangements and Transcriptions (99)” tab. Select the first full entry/arrangement at the top of the list “For Voices, Mixed Chorus and Orchestra (Prout)”, uploaded by “Ottaviano”
*No need to print off the whole thing* – just need no. 44 “Hallelujah”
